Seems we do have a Fall season in Laramie, Wyoming! Don't tell anyone here, where the consensus is generally Windy and/or Winter. But Monkey Snacks can prove otherwise, in case you were wondering while waiting.
And then there was rain and snow!
This means the Boss has also closed up shop up at Fish On Ranch with panoramas of our beautiful Medicine Bow Mountain Range.
This is a video, so click play!
Make sure you turn the volume down. Boss is listening to a bad session of "Drums" in the new teeny-tiny Lincoln! See notes below
More stunning Fall in Wyoming views at our Monkey Snacks Picture Gallery!
Here are some sky pics of the WY/CO Beaver Creek Fire that has been raging all Summer just down the way. This week they stopped daily updates as the fire is now under control enough for just "patrol status". The air quality has improved quite a bit. Yay!
Turns out we had one of the five largest fires burning in the U.S. this Summer. Wildfire Today has some great views, news and valuable info. Check out the fire whirl! Thank goodness we live in the valley and it didn't come close to Fish On, but we use an outdoor air intake, so there have been days when the thick haze was cause for concern when deydrating. Development of a smoky Grateful Granola Flavor is still pending, although the Boss is eager!
Despite being indoors a lot (can you tell we live by the Interstate?), we did spot actual wildlife this Summer. See if you can spy the field bunny- he's hidden almost right in the center. The beautiful caterpillar sunning in the snow is fair easy to see. The third creature...well, we left him in the Gallery because we don't want to scare anybody! Hint: This one has 8 legs and has the words brown and recluse in its name. Although sad, his demise was quick.
Snack Attack Update . . . Finally!
Sending Free Samples continues to go slow due to financial funding. As we have mentioned, we're nowhere near independently wealthy, and in addition to needing to replace the Boss's phone with an old/new one (old/old one is sitting forever in a useless bag of rice , so you can probably surmise roughly what happened), we've had the misfortune of the transmission failing in our roomy mini-van which seems to be a common problem. Mrrrg. To keep the Boss on the road we have downsized quite a bit to an "econo-luxury" Lincoln.
This has put us in a spot in multiple ways, not the least of which has been sending out Free Samples as fast as y'all would appreciate. The income we were using to do that was coming from Laramie Farmers Market sales, but that has also failed as it takes 2-3 trips now in the Lincoln and the Ranch is an hour back and forth commute so there just has been no way.
Solutions are in the works for folks who don't want to wait years. Blog post pending, so keep your eyes peeled!
Fire and Car Rides Aside
Dueling Peanut Butter bowls are still on the prep table and we have been working awfully hard to increase production for both sales and samples with our humble income and tools.
And that 4th x3 bowl? That much granola mix in one bowl is definitely new! After stirring and laying 36 of those for three weeks straight for our Urthbox venture, Stacy really did think it was a good idea to "tone" the upper body strength. There's a longer story to relate later, but suffice to say the result of a "15 minute work out" put her in the closest she ever wants to get to traction for approximately the next three weeks. Lesson learned . . .
Respect the Kettlebell!
But forward Ho! Even if it's been slow and we only have three dehydrators, you know! Adjusting single to double batches and doubles to triple batches, including stirring and dry-time has been going well. You can also see the increase in quantity by looking at the top half of the bowl. Silver disappears!
Organic fair trade soy-free 70% dark chocolate doubled for x2 Chia.
And yep! We hand-process all of the chocolates we use ourselves.
More time consuming than it would first appear.
We sacrifice time for ethics, particularly after we learned about the dark deeds of the majority of "the chocolate industry". That's a whole other blog post we know many of you are curious about. Still pending due to massive granola stir.
Hard as we've tried, there's just no way to triple any of our flavors beyond Honey Cinnamon There's just too much goodness already crammed into them! Above, to the right is a 2x batch of Hemp Hemp Hurray!, rivaling the x1 Peanut Butter. As much as we can get away with today! Curing awaits. . .
Grateful Granola in the first stage of curing before dehydrating. Granola needs cured??? Well, not if you're burning it... errrhrmmm, "toasting" at high temperatures in the oven. Dehydration is a whole other matter. For maximum taste and crunch, we cure our Grateful Granola both before and after drying. As you can imagine, this adds more wait time, but is well worth the effort, even if it does seem to take "forever".
The Good News. . .
Now that it's turned to the Fall season and the Boss is back in town, we at least have back our good company and transportation during the day! Did we say...
Other Good News. . .
We are also getting in orders and other courters from our Urthbox venture! We can't yet say yea or nay, but last week we received "a reach out" from what is the world's largest online retailer to possibly be in their Grocery Category. There's a lot of i's and t's there and "product/label development" to be done before we get the clear. But our ultimate intent is to have a reliable internet marketplace where our yummy granola is already stocked and guaranteed, with FREE Shipping! As of yet, we are still experiencing issues with our own store. But we're figuring it out. Slowly we go.
Want Your Samples Faster?
Keep your eyes peeled! Monkey Snacks is devising a few ways to get your samples to you faster, but this involves setting up pages that allow sample seekers to pay for their own shipping. The delivery cost of getting samples out has been close to outrageous. We are perfectly happy to send out free samples, but it's really the shipping that is halting the show.
So, when we get that page up, Monkey Snacks will still offer Free Samples, but the stipulation of "just pay shipping" will appear.
For those who have and are signing up in the meantime, when we get this "Pay For Shipping" page up, you'll also have the opportunity to pay for your shipping. For those who do we will include an extra sample or 2.
We're acutely aware that there are some of you who are upset out there. Apologies hopefully accepted as there's not much at the moment we can do about that here. Today we will reach the "mile-stone" of 12,000 sign ups over the last 6 months. Minimum shipping, until we round up that $700 Bulk Shipping "fee", for each single sample package starts at no lower than $2.64, just for shipping. Larger packages run between $3.45 and $6.80.
Just for fun let's do the math on the low end, keeping in mind we are NOT including product cost NOR labor NOR overhead for anything. Just shipping.
12,000 x $2.64 = $31,680 . . .
. . . just for the minimum on shipping. That's a mid-level manager's annual salary! Super lol. And honestly, we just don't have that kind of money . . . yet.
And maybe it's at this point you can help us here a bit.
Monetizing Monkey Snacks
Understanding that Monkey Snacks "Free Sample Offer" was inadvertently found and shared on the internet at well over 100 sites, we've come to the conclusion that there is only so much we can do to stop what seems like a happy never-ending deluge. Our time is far better spent creating The Best Granola on the Planet and getting these "Free" samples out.
In addition to giving you the option to pay for shipping, Monkey Snacks has discovered we can earn additional income by sharing with you affiliated links to the ingredients and other products we use.
While we won't be including any "Google Ads" on Monkey Snacks, please do keep your eyes peeled as we start to share with you the best trusted companies we've found over the years and their products and ideas we use.
If you find yourself excited and inclined to purchase by clicking on a Monkey Snacks link, we'll receive a small share of those sales that we will apply to our Shipping Budget, which is currently beyond depleted.
So Hang In There!
While we aren't big fans of the New York Times, while researching other fine things folks have to wait for, we ran across this article that hopefully will put our snack attack situation in perspective for those of you who are tired of waiting. While we don't consider Monkey Snacks "luxury", they are among the finer things in life, and as it turns out, not the only things you have to wait for.
See, we were right about you being part of the granola elite! So thanks to all who are still patient after all. We'll blog back soon, y'all!
P.S. For those who missed the memo (maybe because we haven't written it yet!) we have decided to offer our Hemp Hemp Hurray!, Oatmeal Cookie, Salty Caramel Apple and our Red, White & Blueberry through what looks like through at least next Summer. While sales are still slow due to etc etc etc, these Flavors were available when the Snack Attack came in and they are turning out to be quite the hit. So no worries right now. We'll be making these tasty selections for what may turn out to be far into the future.
Slowest version ever! Appropriate for the hand crafted production of Monkey Snacks Grateful Granola and descriptive of the speed with which we're sending out samples! Hope y'all know, despite having yet to find a steady pace, we're grateful for your patience and superior taste buds. Don't Let Go! We're getting there.
Happy Birthday, Jerry! Thanks for the inspiration.
Sean & Stacy
Hey hey! It's August 8th! Monkeys Alive . . .
Though it may look like we're taking a snooze, we've been busy as all get out. Just don't make it to the internet much. Life on the prairie, you know. And Da Boss still needs to sign off on approval for kitchen wi-fi. Stacy sighs, if you can tell who's responsible for this whole www. business.
For the moment that aside, Monkey Snacks took a deep dive in July and leaped head first into two relatively massive granola orders at the same time.
One for a private conference event in Philadelphia, PA catering to over 17,500 health professionals. There's a great back story to this involving our supplier for pink Himalayan sea salt, but no time for that now. Needless to say, a request to fill a 1000ct/1oz order came our way and it was pre-paid :) So we went for it!
Two, and this happened virtually simultaneously, we were courted by a major internet snack subscription company with a request for a 2,000ct/1oz trial run. You can take a gander at which one here.
This second order did require back and front labels
Uhhhhhh. Obviously we pulled it off (YAY!), but all we knew at the time was here it's Farmers Market Season and we're still staring down 12,000+ free sample requests with still no idea how to pay for all them with X amount of internet/website issues. Ummm. Product+Labor+Shipping. Hmmmmmmm.
Monkey Snacks at Downtown Laramie Friday Farmers Market.
You can see more market pictures at our Picture Gallery
So when these two Amazing+Large orders came along we took the bait. Large to us, anyway...snack box company said 2,000 was the minimum count and 60,000 the maximum. We chose minimum on that one, lol. But we took them both on so we can pay da bills, order more ingredients and hopefully create some forms of re-occuring income so we can get all these samples out before the cows come home.
And sincerely, we need these larger numbers to snack on. Both to really get an idea of what "large scale production" looks like for Money Snacks at this time and to possibly generate a consistent income stemming from Grateful Granola. We've been wishing for that, so we felt like fools if we turned them down.
Printers . . . ARRRGGGG!
Then our second printer broke ... then we got a new one. Third one in less than two months. Forgot to take pictures because the last two look exactly the same! We'll endlessly apologize, but it's little things like this that can slow fast tracks down real fast. Especially when you print your own labels and business cards and endless other stuff. Come to think of it, since we've started Monkey Snacks, it's pretty much been like that. But we're always optimistic and somehow enjoy the climb to bounce back!
This is how we did it this time:
!INSERT SUCCESS HABITS!
And get to melting honey and stirring away!
For the curious, here's what 2,000-3,000 oz of
Grateful Granola looks like from various views:
You can see more pictures for these orders at our Picture Gallery
We don't know how long it will take to find out if the snack box subscription trial run works out, but we washed all the dishes and need more honey to melt!
And get to making the most scrumptious granola!
As for samples....our monkey jaws are still agape with the enormity of it all. And it may sound like two are working Monkey Snacks, which is true, but when it comes to actual A-Z production, only one is on board. And we still have to pay the bills and attend to other life responsibilities in between procuring ingredients and hand crafting.
We know it's getting old for some folks who have requested samples since way back at the end of March, but we really are overwhelmed, if not just with the vastness of the math, let alone production and all.
Which is why we picked up these two out of the blue larger count orders while trying to make to to Laramie Friday Farmers Market (half fail) and one by one painfully send out samples. But hey, we are sending out orders and samples!
Just not very many at the moment. But look what Da Boss got!
A postal scale so we can click & ship and not send because the cost is too steep.
So soon we'll be sending out A LOT!
Still not sure how to express/grasp the enormity of it all. But we're sure sometime soon we'll get on the ball. Given stats that say it takes about five years for some businesses to take off+get their you know what together. Monkey Snacks stands solid right now at year three.
So we'll probably still be here tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled!
Stacy and Sean at Monkey Snacks!
P.S. For those of you who are wondering what the heck a helix sport is, we found an excellent post explaining what a helix sport is here. We're serious John Taylor Gatto Fans. Hope you, too!
That's it. We're calling it . . .just because it hasn't snowed in the last month and it's raining again .... Summer in Laramie....Hurray!
And the first day of Laramie Downtown Friday Farmers Market. We're putting finishing touches on inventory and have a lot to report but no time until tonight or . . .?
In the meantime, check out or new unlabeled picture updates. We'll come back soon and add words.
Happy Summer (finally!), everybody!
Stacy & Sean at Monkey Snacks
P.S. We are starting to send out mailing address confirmation emails.
Keep your eyes peeled!
While working on email we're excited to share with you pictures of two of our specialty flavors which have been recently ordered. Close your eyes, scroll down... now open!
Mother of Salty Caramel Apple....
Salty Caramel with Organic Almonds!
Same as Salty Caramel Apple, only with almonds instead of apples! We came up with this one two years ago after we tried our hand at real caramel apples and encrusted them with almonds. Our luck to come up with two new exciting flavors that compliment the carnival season.
And then there's....wait for it... wait for it...
Classic Raisin n' Date with Sunflower Seeds
Some think boring, but it's REALLY amazing. The perfect taste of sun-kissed sweet.
Raisin n' Date usually only rolls out in Winter, but we are happy to take specialty orders. Sometimes with these orders there is extra, so remember we bring them down to the Laramie Downtown Farmers Market starting in July and sometimes offer them on the internet here if we are of the mind to make a little extra.
If you happen to be in southeast Wyoming this summer, visit our home page for links to local farmers markets in the area.
So we hope your mouth is watering by now as we go off to email. Keep your eyes peeled!
Happy Friday, Everybody!
Stacy & Sean
at Monkey Snacks
P.S. Actually, there is a third flavor on board in the dehydrators, but we're not supposed to say anything as it's not the proper timing. We're supposed to say in a week or so and we don't know if we can wait that long, but if you are super curious, preliminary pictures of this patriotic flavor an be found at the Grateful Granola Picture Gallery.
Hopefully they don't take too long to load. We're still in editing mode.
Technical Difficulties... Monkeys Breaking on Through to the Other Side! P.S. Samples are still taking time
Whoah! Where did the monkeys go?!
Over and underwhelmed with technology, as you can see....internet connections, phone and printer go kaput withing days of each other! We successfully didn't post all May.
We share our phone/internet connection with others and they run on each others use of data. (And Stacy tanked the plan gigabytes trying like mad to figure how to organize to contact you all through email). And obviously a new phone was needed. Actually, it's been smashed for some time now, but the jack is all jacked up so, it's taken us awhile to get back here. So many pictures lost, but we're trying to make it up to you.
See our email and Grateful Granola Picture Gallery updates below.
Monkey Snacks packaging is hand-crafted, too!
We haven't mentioned it yet (?), but we're still doing our own labeling. Errrhrrmm.
Hard to label bags when the printer stinks. The one on the right has been a trusty work horse for over two and a half years. Picked a perfect time for kaput! But it was starting to drag labels through sideways and we were losing more pages than were usable. No choice but to upgrade.
And the Boss is real nice. In addition to purchasing a new printer and an emergency supply of labels, he says we can get internet at the kitchen in a few weeks!
No Bag-Filling Machines Here!
Also keep in mind each of our bags comes sealed and needs to be opened individually by hand before filling with goodies before being sealed again. This new printer works great, but as we print we are finding differences in formatting which is frustrating. As well as a whole lot of differences in labels, even though they basically look the same. Sigh.
We come from Farmers Market land and still aren't overwhelmed with cash flow. When your samples arrive we hope you'll appreciate our efforts at packaging when your samples arrive. We're saving our pennies for up-scaling packaging, but at this point you can SEE it and are very confident your taste buds will shine as bright as your eyes.
Lots and lots of packaging. A whole separate effort to making granola,
but we HAVE to get it to you somehow!
In the meantime. . .
We've spent a fair amount of time adjusting our recipes for dehydrator capacity.
If any of you fine folks are interested in kitchen conversion calculations, we found these handy dandy recipe measurements reference charts you can download here. The third page has been indispensable and is now taped inside the open notebook you see. It includes recipe conversions for cups to ounces to decimals. If you want to know more about standardizing recipes, including child nutrition information, the University of Mississippi has more useful standardizing recipe links and downloads here
But we only have three :/
And each is occupied with ~20 pounds of tasty granola for at least 15 hours, with no hope of a larger turn over sooner than every 2-3 days. And that's no guarantee due to the need for more time for further processing. We are truly banking on your interest in purchasing to purchase more dehydrators so we can get this slow food show more quickly going. If we were really up to speed we'd have at least five of these dehydrators, but we're still price checking lol. If we had them we would even start dreaming about raw orders.
And hiring employees!
Granola Rolling. . .
In the in between we have and are having a great time crafting your granola. About the time the internet went down, several of our local Laramie accounts called to restock and our first batches since the avalanche were swooped up by them. We lost all of our pictures we took of them. Then the printer went down. Yay.
We'll say more about email in a second, but we did manage to take pictures of our new rounds and more are on the way.
Grateful Granola After ~15 Hours on Dehydrator Trays
Grateful Granola ~ Raspberry White Chocolate
Grateful Granola ~ Peanut Butter Banana Dark Chocolate
Hold the Phone!
In between batches we discovered the shape and size of the 70% organic fair-trade dark chocolate we use for our Dark Chocolate Chia and Peanut Butter Banana Dark Chocolate flavors has changed form. They were smaller thin wafers and now they are larger and more thick. We do hand process all of our chocolate. One day we'll tell you a funny story about how we first started with funky Ghirardhelli chips we just dumped out of the bag!
Those were the days, but for two years now we've been snapping chocolate like mad. These thicker discs don't take much longer, but we've noticed that now these yummy superior hand-made chocolate chunks are even more thick and rich.
Hope no one has any problems with that!
ARE SAMPLES STILL AVAILABLE STILL/YET!??!
Hold on just a minute (or a few months)! We're still not sure yet.
We want to tell you we're still crafting Hemp Hemp Hurray, Salty Caramel Apple and Oatmeal Cookie for you fine internet folks to sample and purchase. We've not decided exactly how long to offer each flavor. We usually shelve them seasonally, but luckily every one has jumped on board for the Hemp and we'll extend the Salty caramel Apple, perhaps indefinitely, since it is turning out to be a top flavor.
Not sure about the Oatmeal Cookie. Really, we offered here to see what the response would be, and as with the others, it has been overwhelming. So we'll see. Truthfully, we didn't make it last year and the year before we were using pre-processed semi-sweet Ghirardhelli chips. Easy peasy.
This year we are able to try an organic fair-trade milk chocolate that we hope you'll find divine. Then we'll see how far we carry it into the season if it's pleasing.

More Monkey Snacks Pictures
Making up for the jacked up phone, we are taking A LOT more pictures than we have in the past. Before after all, there weren't any cameras 200 years ago and we were looking at it like slow food: if your great grandmother didn't use it then who cares?
All Luddites protest, but it appears we are being again swayed by the "modern" era. So to accommodate as much as possible, we have started a preliminary Grateful Granola Picture Gallery for you to see and for our use for editing.
We'll continue to post there as we keep rolling and they'll move around the more we get to organizing, but here's a small peek of Grateful Granola in packaging. We're working on how to make them them not blurry.
Core Four Grateful Granola Flavors
Spring into Summer Grateful Granola Flavors:
Hemp Hemp Hurray!, Salty Caramel Apple & Oatmeal Cookie
This bunch you see below is our first round of samples waiting to go out
So When Are Samples Going To Be Sent Out???
Hold the phone a minute! We haven't given you our CRM/Email program update yet!
Monkey Snacks Email Update
Although it may not sound as exciting, since we've gotten our internet back, we've been searching high and low for an email/CRM (Customer Relationship Management) program that can handle y'all and that's affordable.
We've had tons of demos and done countless review checks and over the weekend have decided on Prosperworks, which syncs with gmail and has no limits as to how many folks we can individually email. There are a few missing elements we hope to see developed, but for the time being going through tutorials and features, it's beating the current email program offered through our web site building company in organizational capabilities by a long shot.
So since we have two paid for email programs, we'll still be sending fancy email opt-ins and newsletter type updates from our web host email, that while we only get 20 emails a month, lets us send to you all at once more well.
Fairly complicated, but we're figuring it out! Tomorrow we have another demonstration from Prosperworks and then should be well on the way to contacting you all with a link to confirm correct sample mailing addresses.
Then we'll get paid this Thursday, and with the Boss's easy won permission, we'll start sending samples out.
We're Not Kidding Ourselves
While we're still staring down the magnitude of this magically appearing avalanche of interest, we do understand that getting out samples is still going to be a slow going process, especially until we get more mailing funds, drying equipment and hire more than one granola stirring elbow!
So once again, thanks y'all for continuing to have patience. This is by far one of the most complicated things we've ever done and is so far slow going due to lack of funds.
We'll be sending out another round of double opt-in emails to those who have recently signed up for samples, and for those who have already double opted-in, you'll see an email soon asking for confirmation of your physical mailing address. (We know some of you have already done so).
Summer is Coming
In between, we've received a special early order request for our Red, White and Blueberry, which we usually don't roll out until the 4th of July, but we think you might like a sneak peek at the ingredients anyway.
Red, White and Blueberry Grateful Granola Ingredients.
Organic freeze dried fruits with organic white chocolate (also fair-trade :)
So here we be, slow, but still moving monkeys. Keep your eyes peeled for new email!
Sean & Stacy
P.S. It seems some folks have had trouble finding sample sign up forms and out of town purchasing links. If you look up at the top right-hand side of this blog page. You'll see links beneath Archives and Categories.
Apologies it's taking us so long to post, folks! We're still knee deep in email woes and our blog keeps eating our words and putting in crazy spacers, so today we'll post this season's Hemp Hemp Hurray in pictures and get back to you soon after we are done loading Honey Cinnamon, Dark Chocolate Chia and Raspberry White Chocolate into dehydrators.
Hemp Hemp Hurray Grateful Granola: loaded with goji berries,
organic hemp and chia seeds and unsweetened dark cherries.

In other Monkey News:
And Chef Rev is busy creating samples for catering tastings in Laramie
Caprese skewers, chicken salad cream puffs, sun dried tomato smoked turkey wraps and
spicy mustard Reuben on rye pinwheels. Time for a late lunch!
We hope you all are having a wonderful Hemp Hemp Hurray Wednesday.
Sean and Stacy at Monkey Snacks
P.S. This week we are looking at postage scales so we can economically send samples your way and working on a gallery, ingredients and FAQ pages. Check back soon for updates!
At least when it's spring in Wyoming!
We've got our fingers crossed to receive our organic fair-trade milk chocolate today, but we're not sure if the roads will send luck our way.
Until then, we are in Salty Caramel Apple land with hopes to follow up later this evening with nine batches of much requested Honey Cinnamon.
Monkey Snacks is still receiving over a 100 sample requests a day(!) and we haven't had time to unravel packaging and email Update dilemmas.
We figure before getting too overwhelmed in details, we should account for our curing times and get to stirring the granola!!
We wish we could stop right now and read all of your gracious comments. If all goes as planned, we'll have some time to catch up with organizing and sending out emails tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Stay warm out there and thank you for your patience,
Stacy & Sean at Monkey Snacks
It may come as a surprise to all of you, but here at Monkey Snacks we don't always have granola for breakfast. (That's why we love calling it a snack!).
Breakfast in Laramie this fine spring day. . .
This morning we're trying to keep it local with Cheyenne's Grace Pastures delicious Chevre goat cheese. (no, it doesn't taste like goats!)
Christine also delivers us raw goat milk when making her rounds in Laramie under the Wyoming Food Freedom Act and we use her wonderful lotions and moisturizing bars. There's a lot of high altitude semi-arid desert and hand-washing around here!
Baers Jam out of Carpenter, Wyoming is claiming to be the best jam ever, and today we agree with their Red Cherry Jam spread on toasted rye bread with Christine's Chevre. Pretty yummy!
Monkey Snacks Breakfast:
Grace Pastures Goat Cheese and Baers Cherry Jam on Rye Toast
While picking up our jam from Laramie's Big Hollow Food Co-op, we decided, since we've had so many sample requests, to pick up extra ingredients for our Hemp Hemp Hurray!
Best coconut oil on the planet warming up in the Wyoming sun
So we are busy crafting, the coconut oil is melting and we are still trying to figure out this email program so we can send you all an official Monkey Snacks Welcome!
Thank you for checking back at our blog for updates.
Have a Happy Hemp Hemp Hurry Day, Everyone!
Sean & Stacy
P.S. While sorting through comments we've found several that address the freshness of Monkey Snacks after such a long sample wait.
No official fresh tests have been performed, and we've had some flavors taste super yummy after a year stored under ideal conditions (the Hemp being one of them).
We have a Super Elite Monkey Snacks Fan who spends about $1500 throughout the Laramie Summer Farmers Markets. She double bags and stores it in her deep-freeze, swearing all flavors are still tasting fresh throughout until the next season.
Leaving any snack in the sun will of course deteriorate it's constitution. (There are also some secret benefits here. We'll share later in a future post, but for a hint it does involve tooth health.)
Our Peanut Butter Banana Dark Chocolate should be eaten the quickest.
But to answer the question, will my granola sample still be fresh by the time it arrives?
Our Grateful Granola Honey Cinnamon base recipe's was originally crafted as a short-term storage staple item for family pantries.
Stored in a cool dry dark place such as a backpack, briefcase, fridge, freezer or pantry, we guarantee your snacks for freshness up to three months. No returns yet!
In any case, we will be sending rotating sample batches of fresh granola as they are made and sent out. They certainly should still be fresh as long as the post service doesn't leave them out!
Short answer: Because monkeys don't like to stop in their tracks!
But if you're curious for a more long winded answer to this question posed by a superior sample seeker from one of our free samples forms, then read on!
We've had several opportunities to ask ourselves that question over the last few weeks. But really, until looking over comments from a new sample request form, we haven't asked ourselves this question much over the past few weeks.
Us monkeys are more about Why not?
Once, when we first got swamped with free sample requests around late March 22nd and we thought we were being spammed. We just let it roll because it was late and we wanted to just observe what was happening. If it was a spammer, we'd take care of it tomorrow later.
Few know about us on the internet anyway and really effects nobody, and who cares, right?
Riiiiiiight . . . . . . .
When we woke up March 23rd we had well over 1,000 requests! Confirmed from research linking us to "free sample site" posts. And LOTS of them. Still need to contact with thanks!
So not spam. What now ?
By March 24th free sample forms were coming in by the hundreds! And we were in sheer panic just to stem the flow. The Monkey Snacks Free Samples Attack, as it is now affectionately called, actually frightened us some. And we screwed up a lot of things, probably still...
How could we possibly fill all these
free sample requests?!?
And on first thought, how could we possibly say no?!?
(Lots of reasons some might think of, actually. Like how to pay for free product, packaging and shipping for 9,603 sample requests, as of today! We still don't know. But we get paid from other jobs Thursday and are giving it a go... obviously :) To start, it's just going real slooooow.
We do have obligations to Laramie boots on the ground markets and other orders to fill. Have patience, y'all!
So our answer to "Why honor this offer?"
Because we'd be FOOLS not to. And we're already monkeys, so....
If we fall on our faces faster, all the better. We are learning a lot as we go!
And honestly, we'd also feel bad not sharing with you. After all, we are claiming to be the Best Granola on the Planet. Very bold to say and not let you try it out. PSYCH! Lol.
Even given we are unable to fulfill the original offer found on our website, we're not deterred from sample tastes and superior taste buds.
Plus, we're basically used to Farmers Markets around the Laramie, Wyoming area and aren't used to so much foot traffic. We might not say no because we're used to it.
And we simply delight watching the looks on folks faces and their heads begin to nod as their tongues realize granola bliss in a melt-in-you-mouth haze. Like watching happy babies!
We also dang well know if folks can't taste it they certainly aren't going to melt to buy it, so we always provide free taste samples at local Markets.
Just because we haven't met y'all face to face yet, we've been wishing for you these past three years.
The only catch? You showed up here!
So joke's on us, kinda. lol.
And as you can all see, we're not overly prepared
Plenty of reasons to not honor any offer, sure!
But we're also not saying no because we LOOOOOOVE great info, and know you good folks do to. And it's much easier to share with 10,000 of you, then one by one at market, if this email show ever goes :) Until then, we hope you make it back to our blog here for updates.
Questions? Whose got questions?
While going through comments for sample requests (which is, sadly, about the last thing we've been able to pay attention to), we've learned
there are many comments hidden in Excel cells. (And interested buyers, too! But we'll get there in a scroll or two.)
As we go, we are compiling FAQ pages to answer you. When it looks less messy we'll share, but until then, and in case you missed it, enjoy our page
This page will answer many sugar, fat, carbohydrate and other nutrition related questions. Due to time and money this is as far as we've gotten, but hope you will appreciate and enjoy the information.
Note that we aren't nutrition experts, but our nutrition facts sheets do rely on research and FDA guidelines for nutrition facts. We hope to turn that page into a space where we provide links you can click on.
Anyhoo . . . .
The real reason we are honoring our own versions of sample requests (we do reserve the right to do that) is because we are grateful and want to spread the news through food! That means we HAVE to.
So bombs away and tally ho!
Thank you for the question, Susan in Louisiana. Now. . .
Time to make the granola!
<3 Sean & Stacy, the Monkey Snacks Team
P.S. If you have seen our home page lately, then you know Monkey Snacks is scheduled this weekend for the
That's right. The Best Granola on the Planet this weekend in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. We hope to see a few of you there!
P.P.S. This also means, due to time and finances, we will not be able to start processing any samples until maybe next week. We see on "free sample sites" one can wait at least 10 weeks. This our third week scratching our heads, so thank you for your patience. On many fronts we are still calculating.
P.P.P.S. We are contacting buyers in a more timely manner,
P.P.P.P.S. To hopefully settle some confusion about the difference between filling out forms, and to make our new found data mining job a little easier, please follow one of the two links here which best suits you
P.P.P.P.P.S. Did we forget anything?
Thanks for reading! For Updates, keep your eyes peeled!
Sean & Stacy
Monkey Snacks update. We think today's Update is better said in pictures.
One day we'll have an ingredients page so you can see
exactly who and where we procure our higher standard ingredients.
As for today.
we hope you enjoy our photo update and
set your taste buds small alight. Maybe see y'all tonight!
Monkey Snacks has honey melting and coconut oil stocked.
(You might not know, but the only sugar in our base recipe
Grateful Granola Honey Cinnamon is yummy Cheyenne Honey.
We receive it raw and then warm it up ourselves in dehydrators
so we stay close to natural ingredient taste and
and have no issues with inconsistency,
as with "baker's honey" is often the case.)
So forward ho!
Four out of eight Monkey Snacks stainless steel hand-crafting bowls.
Ready and layering!
Although we are focusing today on batches of Honey Cinnamon
we wanted to share with you what organic fair-trade chocolate
looks like since our shipment came in.
Again, thank y'all for your patience and support! Next time we update we'll tell you more about our packaging and as far as we are at with sending email updates.
Much Aloha & Happy Sunday,
Sean & Stacy
P.S. Sample packaging has arrived!
P.P.S. For those curious, we have been doing lots of stuff! (Just a little
winded and still on the go right now to blog about it :).
We even pulled out our 15minute/24hour daily schedule to keep on track
Here's a small snapshot of the last 18 days at Monkey Snacks:
In case any of you are scheduling hounds, here's a gem from Stacy.
You are more than welcome to download it.
A few days ago we asked y'all to keep your eyes peeled for our Monkey Snacks opt-in email and that's exactly what 2,766 of you have done and are now officially on our Snacks Sample & Updates list. More than 100 new sign ups are still coming in daily. Wow. It's amazing to watch the count go up as we work in email.
Our To-Do List behind the scenes is long, looking kind of like a magical traveling map of the USA. You fine folks hail from all over the place!
(Again, apologies to international sample seekers. No samples are available outside the states at this time.)
And also apologize if any of you have received more than one opt-in email. We're sure it's annoying, but some folks signed up under multiple forms before we knew what was going on. Don't laugh. We had up about 6 random forms set up for various reasons when y'all showed up and some have come in as double-sign ups. We're working to clean that up.
10,000 names with info is A LOT to process. But you're all safe and tucked away in email. And we are learning a lot about Excel.
At least enough to get everybody into our shiny new email program which we are fast getting used to. The folks we build our website through just rolled out an email option about a month ago and we're giving them a lot of tips on how to streamline their program. But overall it's going well.
And we feel a lot better to have you all safe and organized there.
We'll be learning forever, but for now, all who have signed up for Monkey Snacks Samples and Updates as of early April 7th have been sent what is called a Double Opt-In Email. Over 25% of sends have been Confirmed (wow) and we'll be sending out a few reminders to the rest of you who might have missed our first email.
As for new sign ups, we see folks still coming in from all over. We are taking new sign ups, but as of April 7 we need to focus on getting our first round of samples crafted (as we do orders) and we think that's going to take quite awhile to reach you all.
Plus, our email program only allows 20 emails total to be sent a month so there no way we can send you an opt in email individually. We'll wait for a fair number to come in before the next opt-in email is sent, but no worries, you'll still be put on our samples list. New-sign ups should get an opt-in email within a week.
We also have a goal by the end of April to have contacted all the sites we found who have listed us with a great big Thank You and put them on our samples list.
Now for all of you fabulous Monkey Snacks Fans who made it into this first round of what we're affectionately calling the Monkey Snacks Sample Attack:
You're a winner in the Monkey Snacks sample lottery to have a taste of the Best Granola on the Planet that two weeks ago we didn't even know we had set up. Imagine our luck and thank you for signing up!
Behind the scenes we've been working to bring you an answer to the most asked question:
Can I get me some of that Salty Caramel Apple?!?
But of course!
But that's an empty bucket of honey! Delivery from Cheyenne Honey and a new box of sample bags are on the way so we will not begin until Saturday. But that's slow food for you. Hurry up and wait!
Serendipity Confections (based in Laramie) has fresh batches of Sea Salt Caramel at the ready!
We're still scratching our heads about the details of shipping & handling but that's what updates are for and where we are at this fine Friday.
We're working on fresh batches of Honey Cinnamon and Hemp (also lots of requests for that!) and not saying anything about our seasonal Oatmeal Cookie with organic raisins, walnuts and
(fair-trade, too!) milk chocolate.
We're also cleaning up lists in email and will be sending all Monkey Snacks Samples & Updates opt-in Monkey Snacks Fans a Welcome email with a few more intimate details and updates...
while we wait!
So keep your eyes peeled for that email!
(Soon we'll tell y'all where you are on the Monkey Snacks Samples wait list.)
Sean & Stacy
That's what Elizabeth from Ohio said in response to what has grown to be a rather long Monkey Snacks free sample list. Now what to do about this?
For almost two weeks now Monkey Snacks has been struggling between our regular production and this awesome new influx of interest for our Grateful Granola. Thankfully it's the slower winter season and we've been able to sort and organize the first 9,219 requests.
Ummmmm. We've never received more than five internet sample requests a month until now. We're a little behind, as you might guess, lol.
We've held off sending any confirmation emails until this morning. This initial first round of opt-ins has been sent to 1,283 contacts that filled out their sample forms before we had any idea of what was going on. And get this, we deleted all comments and addresses when we changed the form page in an effort to stop what we thought might be a spam attack.
Drat. Red-faced monkeys, yep!
But those emails have been sent an opt-in request to get you back!
Now only 7,985 left! But good news. We've sifted and sorted through all of these initial sample requests and have found out the following information about you fine folks and thought A LOT about how to handle all your taste buds without going broke...or nuts!
So here is what we have found and what we are doing about it:
1. Many of you have filled out a sample request, but left the comment section blank!
You'll never believe this, but we found over 5,565 requests without comments! For these requests without comments we have decided to send a Monkey Snacks Email Update Opt-In to see how many replies we get. Once we get an opt-in reply, we'll put that request back on the list.
NOTE: Many international requests were also blank. Due to high cost, at this time we are not taking international requests.
2. Now that's only about 2420 samples left! Still a lot, lol. So we've skinnied this list down even further in the name of not breaking the bank. All forms with brief light "thank you" "found you at" or "free sample" comments will go to the bottom of the list. Here we are also sending an opt-in email address.
For those on the light comment list: When you opt-in for our email updates you'll be moved up the list to receive samples.
Minus these simple sample requests, we still have 1122 requests to go.
3. We've found so many comments, at least 677 that are completely enthusiastic. We wish we could send them all out now, but that's impossible. So, we are placing these requests on a second tier contact list and will add some to the first tier as we go, so hopefully receiving samples won't take forever.
4. Among 543 first tier contacts are folks who fell into several categories. You'd laugh if we told you in our initial segmenting we found 37 categories in all. Y'all are some very fascinating people! We've consolidated this some, but these categories include:
-Order and try before buying requests
-Granola and snack lovers
-Health and nutrition related issues
-Fans of small businesses and "clean" ethical food
-Families, snackers and travelers
-All manner of questions asked
-Offers to sell Monkey Snacks elsewhere
And so many others too long to list!
Truthfully, we have no clue how long this will take, but we are also sending opt-in email invites for first tier requests so we can tell who has the most interest and you can move up the samples delivery list and we can keep you updated!
Now it's your turn!
5. Keep your eyes peeled for your Confirm Monkey Snacks Updates Email, click YES! and get yourself on up this mountain of lists!
Also please excuse any email faux pas. The learning curve is immense!
P.S. For those excited about our Monkey Snacks and have yet to sign up

A tip o' the hat to the top of one of music greats. Away we go...
So it's been a week now since Monkey Snacks was avalanched with over 8,197 free sample requests! We'd call it a mess but we've been blessed!
For those of you seeking free samples, please see our previous Monkey Snacks Blog post. We're pretty much in the same boat.
As of today, new sample request form entries will be placed on hold until at least May. The current volume of unexpected requests has been waning, but we know many will still be coming in from all the sample sites others so kindly listed us in.
We apologize to anyone who encountered sample offer sites that "advertised" Monkey Snacks free samples valued at $15.00. To be clear, Monkey Snacks is NOT responsible for any free sample website listings. We are very surprised at this sudden response to us and cannot promise you this package or, at this time, a timely sample delivery.
We are still very happy for you to Sign Up for Monkey Snacks Samples
& Updates if you don't mind the wait. Until now we haven't experienced a flood of interest in Monkey Snacks so have been very small up until today. But given this new interest we are investing in a way to keep in touch with you all through some sort of email communication. Gmail isn't going to cut it. No way.
We're still working to organizing The Best Monkey Snacks Fans into
email. We hope you'll be excited to receive our Welcome to Monkey Snacks Opt-In email when we send it to you.
Keep your eyes peeled!
How did that happen???
We had NO idea when we started receiving off the hook new Monkey Snacks Form submissions out of the blue like crazy what the hack was going on. We were even silly enough to shut off that form fearing we were experiencing a spam attack. We lost about 156 contacts and are currently working on getting them back!
Once we figured it out all of this traffic was coming from Reddit, we put that form right back and have not experienced much slowdown ever since, even with the holiday weekend.
First, we want to thank all the other free sample websites who came along shortly thereafter and also listed us (!!). When we counted after we figured out how, we found at least 20! And of course all of you who filled forms out.
For those who signed up early on, we missed having a proper thank you when you signed up for samples on our form. And in case you make it back here we want to let you know how we are handling this blessed new deluge of requests for samples and what you might be able to do to speed your sample delivery along.
So here is a little shakedown of what we are up to now that our lives have changed because of all of you!
Over the weekend we've gone through the bulk of submissions received in the last week or so and have found out a lot of awesome info! In addition, we've discovered that in order to handle Monkey Snacks new unexpected and overwhelming popularity we're going to have to segment out submissions and give them priority.
You see, we started this website for folks who found us at farmers markets and their friends and family who wanted to check us out on the internet and maybe order something. Since Monkey Snacks started in 2013 we have been dreaming of sharing worldwide, but we had no idea we would have this much exposure in so little time.
We are used to sending a few boxed samples every month to the tune of around $50. Today, if we were to hold to this same offer , including shipping, we are staring down a $129,149 product and shipping budget!
Anyone want to invest??? lol (see links down below)
Until then, we wish we could send you all your samples at once and in full as our web form stated, but you see the math. We are used to that sample package being valued at $17.00, which for all of you is simply beyond our budget.
So, to tackle this, we've decided to contact and send samples in the following manner, with the option to amend:
-We are still sorting through contacts and are giving our new found Best Monkey Snacks Fans Ever lists this order of priority:
-Asks for a direct sale
-Asks for samples to review
-Monkey Snacks and health related questions
-Comments expressing love for granola & small businesses
-General comments or simple request for sample
-Most international requests
At this point we have no idea how to handle this volume of requests and are busy figuring out how to get your samples out to you. For the most part, we will not be starting most sample requests until at least next week after we get contacts more manageable and we've processed a mountain of raspberries and the world's finest chocolates.
We are tempted to assign everyone a number should anyone wonder where you are in the granola samples sending order, but we're still not sure. On that we will get back to you.
In the meantime, while still sorting contacts about, we encourage you to check back here at our blog for updates. We'll also be letting you know how we plan to reconfigure our sample packs to account for this Monkey Fans Snack Attack. We will have to scale down quantity quite a bit.
If you are anxious to taste monkey snacks before your samples arrive, there a few ways you can move your superior snacking experience up in line:
1. Visit Monkey Snacks at Go Fund Me
-Here you'll find an easy way to contribute to Monkey Snacks' sample extravaganza project as well as give back. We'd like to be clear we did not court these amazing sample requests and are not looking for handouts. But we are a very small business and want to get your samples out. Contributing at Go Fund Me will move your samples along faster and you give back. Check it out!
2. Place an order
-All fine folks who place orders will also have their samples sent out first. The easiest way to order is to directly contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your purchase inquiry and we will send you a sales sheet with further details about selection and delivery time. For this option, please do NOT order through our website.
3. Invest directly in Monkey Snacks!
-Contact us through the above email. We'd love to get this Snack Show rolling at a grander fast pace. If you see potential, let us know! With this option, getting Monkey Snacks samples in a more timely manner will be faster for you.
-When you signed up for free samples you opted in to receive updates from Monkey Snacks. You may know that smaller food production companies are able to sell products up to a certain amount without nutrition information on their labels. This gives smaller producers the opportunity to save up for this costly requirement. Unfortunately, until labeling requirements are met, these companies can make no health claims.
Given Monkey Snacks is still in the "small" category, you'll find our labels are still pretty simple, listing only ingredients and serving suggestions. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't know the amazing benefits of the finest ingredients we've intentionally chosen.
So, now that we are back to blogging (a perfect place to get information to you cyber-users out there!) and celebrating a New Year, over the weeks Monkey Snacks plans to share each of our simple ingredients and what OTHERS have to say with you here.
Our first post will be about Grateful Granola staple, the Almighty Oat.
P.S. Until then, all you small food producers out there (and anyone else who wants to) we may have found an economical solution to labeling at Recipal! Check it out!
Looks like we monkeyed around for over a year without making a blog post! Sometimes (a lot!) making Grateful Granola and Chef Rev Spices takes a back seat to most every thing else!
So.... a quick 2014 Monkey Snacks Update!
~Summer 2014 Farmers Markets were TERRIFIC!
Monkey Snacks made it into a commercial kitchen!

Sean spent most of his summer cooking up the best chef created food for
Fish On Ranch in Centennial and perfecting rub and seasoning recipes. Thanks

~Winter 2015. Here We Are! BRRRR!
We hope you are staying warm this Wyoming Winter season! Monkey Snacks is
busy in the kitchen! Over the past year we have been invited to post our delicious, one-of-a-kind food products on several online Farmers Market platforms, so we have 3 goals to reach before the Big Spring Thaw:
1. Share with you more tasty snack blog posts
2. Share Monkey Snacks with online Farmers Market snack lovers
3. Finalize packaging for retail sale.
Coming soon to a store near you!
Working within Wyoming Cottage Food Law definitely has many benefits, but there a few features that might be called "sticky wickets." We thought we'd say before all started wondering why we aren't touting the "health benefits" of our tasty treats. After all, Monkey Snacks creations are intentionally made with many organic ingredients and whole foods as possible and stays away from GMOs when we can.
So why no Monkey Snack health claims? Nor retail offerings?
The answer has many details, but at the base, in order to offer you Monkey Snacks without nutrition labels, by and large, we are bound to make no health claims nor offer our snacks to anyone other than in face to face exchanges.
We are allowed to list our ingredients for you, but may not say on our snacks what health benefits they may contain. It is Monkey Snacks desire that you have access to all nutrition facts and are in process of calculating recipes. Not sure how long it will take, as we are seeking a reliable program to double check our math and fulfill the following state labeling requirements Wyoming Department of Agriculture Label Review Form.
In the meantime, as we slowly become experts at "nutrition labeling," we will post outside links to the possible "benefits" of the ingredients of our goodies, as we think you should know what you and yours are eating.
We are just starting the Monkey Snacks Snack Data page, but you will likely soon find this type of information there and on the Snack Blog here.
Of course Monkey Snacks welcomes all questions and comments about ours and others' snacks. We are enthusiastic about food and have access to much outside research.
Monkey Snacks all began this Summer at Laramie area farmers' Markets with a desire to bring you, friends and family yummy and easy to eat snacks and give you the chance to meet the folks who care about making food for you. That is why we currently remain a Cottage Food endeavor. We believe that producing and buying local is very important, as well as making the foods we eat as simple and tasty as possible.
On this note, Sean and Stacy (see more at our about page https://www.monkey-snacks.com/aboutcontact-us.html ) are pleased to bring you the finest snacks in the Laramie, Wyoming area. Why only Laramie and the south east Wyoming area?
The short technical answer . . .
Due to cottage food laws, Monkey Snacks isn't permitted to offer our creations on any retail level. Nor ship through the mail. This is why you won't find an option to order over the internet at this time. We can take internet orders, but are limited by being required to deliver face-to-face.
And we actually prefer to meet rather than confuse people. We will discuss this in future blogs, but for ordering now, please see our product description (yes! we do have a date with a photographer!) and bulk ordering pages and get in touch with us through our contact page.
Here is more information about Cottage Foods in Wyoming. This document discusses the importance of buying from local producers as well as the food safety requirements Monkey Snacks rigorously follows.
From the Wyoming Department of Agriculture
Who knows? Maybe you will be inspired and we'll soon be eating what you are creating!
Aloha from Laramie,
Stacy & Sean
P.S. Thanks for your patience while we work on site building. We are working hard to get up all of our information for those who have been requesting internet access to Monkey Snacks. Some think it's silly to let you watch while we go through this process, but we welcome all questions and comments as we try to be as user-friendly as we can be from the on-set.
Thank you for supporting local and our work-in-progress!
